This week, Mrs. Pedrero has come back in town from her daughter’s wedding. With that in mind, we have scheduled a mentor visit this week on Wednesday to catch up on discussing my paintings and Final Product. Overall, I am super excited to share my progress with her and make revisions to my final product proposal if necessary. This week, I have started an underpainting for one of my smaller abstracts. Going into the abstract, I wanted to implement a new technique onto the blank canvas. Using a generous amount of white acrylic paint, I spread a thin layer of paint in some concentrated areas of the canvas. Then, I blotted sections of the canvas with streams of black paint and poured water all over the black spots. With my flat, sharp palette knife, I began to spread the paint intuitively until I felt the underpainting was complete. Overall, this technique was pretty surprising and fun for me. With changes in pressure and angle, I was actually able to move the paint in an almost fluid-like manner, which was something I haven't really been able to do before. Since the underpainting, I am planning on either taking a more realistic route by implementing concrete objects such as fruit or fish, or going completely abstract. All in all, I am excited to discuss my progress and recent developments with Mrs. Pedrero on Wednesday!
